Herning Korforening
Herning Korforening was founded back in 1941 – and is still going strong! We are a mixed choir singing a classical repertoire from a period starting from the middle age up to contemporary music. Our texts are in Danish, Latin, English and German – sometimes French. We are about 25 singers –our daily musical leader is Søren Fogt Bormann, 36 years old, candidate of musicology and organ player at the church of Odder and is the director of two choirs.
The choir is developing towards singing every second year with one or two other choirs.
For 3 years, 2018-2021, we have been in a pilot project with a network organization called “Herning Synger” (Singing in Herning) and The Jutland School of Singing. In this project we made projects for 7-11 weeks at a time with two final concerts. The project form worked so well that we still make projects of approximately 3-4 months each.
This spring our project no. 24 runs from the 16 February to the 18 May 2026. Right now, we are starting our rehearsals for a musical service at the Hedeagerkirken in Herning and after that we will have a concert at the Gødstrup Hospital.
Our next project no. 25 runs from 23 May to 30 August and aims at the Herning Opera Festival in the end of august, where other choirs are invited to participate, and we sing some opera choirs. Last year the opera was Dido and Aeneas, and was performed with all the necessary soloists, Herning Kirke`s Boys’ Choir and musicians from the Ensemble MidtVest, conducted by Asbjørn Damgaard Faleide.
For the autumn 2026 we are working on a concert with two pianists and Lieder by Brahms, and together with Deep Forest Art Land we plan on singing in the sculpture woods south of Herning. The year will be ended by singing in the different departments of the Gødstrup Hospital, and our Christmas concert in Sct. Johannes Church.
A way of joining the choir is to apply for membership via the FOF.dk where you can have membership for half a year at the time, the spring season and the autumn season, about 20 rehearsals per half year.
Another way of singing in the choir is to join a project for a few months; they are announced on the front page of our site, also the price.
You are welcome to join us on the dates mentioned in the “Korinformation” (Information to the Choir) on the homepage and experience for yourself! We usually have 3 free rehearsals followed by a test to place you in the right group, if there is a doubt.
Rehearsals take place on The Jutland School of Singing, Nørregade 7D, in “KORSALEN”, 7400 Herning, Mondays from 7 to 9.15 PM.
